“Now listen, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.’ Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” James 4:13-14 I’m a planner. I like to know what I am going to do, where I am going to go, and how I am going to get there. But for all my planning the reality is I have little to no control over what tomorrow will bring. I realize that, and I think you do too. How many of you have made plans only to have those plans drastically altered by the weather, or a phone call, or a flat tire? So what are we supposed to do? Should we just live each day in the moment and hope for the best? Not at all. I think James would tell us planning is a good thing, but James would say our perspective in planning changes everything. I hope you will join us this Sunday at 10:30 am as we continue our series “Faith In Action.”

"The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David!’ ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ‘Hosanna in the highest heaven!’ When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, ‘Who is this?’ The crowds answered, ‘This is Jesus,’” Matthew 21:9-11a. Have you ever wondered how this crowd of people could one day be cheering Jesus on as a conquering hero, and just a few days later cry out to have him crucified? As we study Jesus' life, it becomes clear that they knew who He was, they just didn't understand the nature of His Kingdom. You know, the world is still like that. People are open to the Jesus they want, the Jesus of their own definition. If He gives them what they want...health, wealth, happiness, heaven when they die... but what happens when Jesus confronts the sinfulness of our hearts? How will we respond when Jesus reveals the true nature of His Kingdom?
"Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom." James 3:13. We live in an interesting time. Knowledge is available at the click of a mouse. If you want information on anything you can find it in seconds on your phone or tablet or computer. Just ask Alexa! I'm not sure if this wealth of information has led us to where we are, but we live in a society where everyone is an expert. Everyone has all the answers. It's amazing to me how opinionated we have become as a society. How we immediately jump to conclusions, make judgments, and throw our two cents into every conversation. It can really create some intense conflict among people. I don't know about you, but I really want to make wise decisions in my conversations, in my work, in my family, and in every area of my life. For me to do that I recognize that I desperately need godly wisdom. But I find that it is so easy for my response, for my actions, for my life... to be guided by envy and selfish ambition. Thankfully James has some insight into how we can apply godly wisdom to our lives. I hope you will join us this Sunday! Pastor Jason

When I was a kid, we had a saying, you’ve probably heard it and maybe you’ve even used it yourself… “Stick and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me.” I’m not sure who made that saying up, but we all know that nothing could be further from the truth. The reality is our words are very powerful. In fact, men and women have used words to start revolutions that changed the trajectory of human history. Words are powerful. And our words have the power to destroy others or to build them up. As hard as we try, we seem to constantly run into a problem… we cannot control our tongue. James says it like this, “…no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.” So, if we cannot control our tongue, what hope do we have? What if I were to tell you this passage in James, titled “Taming the Tongue,” is not even about the tongue, but about something much deeper? I hope you will join us this Sunday at 10:30am! Pastor Jason
"You are going to look at my life and go, 'Man, there is no way he would do those things unless he really believed there is a God up there watching him!'" (Francis Chan on James 2:18).

Have you ever been around someone that is book smart, but when it comes to practically applying that knowledge, they don’t have any clue? We can become experts in a field, but, if we are not putting that expertise into practice, if we are not exercising that knowledge in real life situations, is there any real benefit to what we have learned? James writes, “Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.” It’s easy to come to church and observe and listen, and maybe say, “Well that’s some good information,” but are you doing anything with it? If you’re not doing anything with it then you’ll never unlock the power of God’s Word in your life. Join us this Sunday at 10:30 am as we continue our series entitled “Faith in Action,” a study in the book of James.
